Lafourche Parish, Louisiana
January, 2003
Bayou Lafourche runs North/South and these two highways run
parallel to the bayou - HWY 308 on the West and HWY 1 on the East.
On this little trip we will travel from North to South passing through (in order):
Valentine, Larose, Cut-Off, Galliano, and Golden Meadow.

This is HWY 308

Not unusual to see a tractor on the road

Little church in the sugarcane field near Valentine, LA

The Valentine papermill

Welcome to South Lafourche

Here, in Larose, LA, Bayou Lafourche meets the Intracostal Canal

Not the bayou, but the canal...see the large boat being constructed in the back?

Ignore the actual title, this place is called the "Double D" by locals.
I was recently informed that the Double D
sells, on average, 1200 hotdogs a weekend!

The back-side of Larose/Cut-Off Jr. High. I was here from 7th grade to 9th.

Welcome to Cut-Off, LA. This is the Cut-Off pontoon bridge.

Local fisherman, happily posing for SlicesOfAmerica in front of the same bridge.

Welcome to Galliano, LA.

Here we see three trawling boats parked along the bayou.

Here is the Galliano church.

Danny's chicken-mobile...priceless.

Welcome to Golden Meadow, LA. Watch your speed!

Pelicans, our state bird, on a very chilly January morning.

I don't know what the old folks call this place, but every now and then....you can see senior
citizens gathered here. They sit and talk about the goings on. Two friends e-mailed me
to shed some light on the situation:
"I passed on your site to one of my friends that I work with at Port Fourhon. He told me that the tree with the senior citizens is called Chien d'Cowan. Cowan is the man's name and Chien means Tree."

"Just a little input. The Oak Tree Gang is an elite group of the Golden Meadow Corporation's finest who assemble to discuss the issues plaguing today's economic, political, and athletic world. If you plan on running for a political position which requires a Golden Meadow vote, you'd better consult the Oak Tree Gang and pray they look favorably on your campaign."
