Bryce Canyon National Park - Utah

We woke early and got a really good jump on the day, allowing us to cover two national parks before sunset. The first park of the day was Bryce Canyon National Park.

Bryce Canyon, like the Grand Canyon, was shaped by millions of years of erosion. The characteristic rock shapes seen here are called "hoodoo". The park is situated in Southwestern Utah, in the Dixie National Forest.

A little history from the visitor’s guide, “In 1875 Ebenezer Bryce moved to the valley below to live and harvest timber. Neighbors called the canyon behind his home Bryce’s Canyon. Soon after 1900, people were coming to see the colorful geologic sights, and the first accommodations were built.”
