Capitol Reef National Park - Utah
Capitol Reef National Park was our second park of the day. This was my favorite of all three Utah parks. We took time to thoroughly hike and photograph the middle section of the park, near the visitor's center.

This rock formation, located just across the street from the visitor's center, is fittingly named The Castle. Notice the trees at the bottom of the photo - my brother brings them to life in the next shot...

Hickman Bridge - After hiking for a while, Parker sat here at this exact point, for at least an hour and a half waiting for the sun to light up this natural bridge just right.

I assembled this arch in the style of Andy Goldsworthy, and dedicated it to my wife, who didn't even yell once when I told her I was going on a trip without her. Here's to you Angela!

That night we camped at the Fruita campsite, just a few minutes drive from the visitor's center. Once the sun went down, everything became quite impossible, yet we somehow managed to get a fire going on the grill provided by the park, and heated up some beef stew. Parker says it was the best beef stew he'd ever eaten. I agree it was good stew, but I would like to add that we were delirious from the cold and starving from the hiking. Dirt would have probably tasted like cake. We pitched the tent, but it did not provide the insulation needed to keep warm. The temperature fell below 55, maybe below 50. One by one each of us reached our breaking point and abandoned the tent for the slightly warmer car. The next morning we took the scenic drive through the park and then headed east for Moab.
