Mountains in Utah - sorry, I don't know what mountains.

We hit a lot of snow in Utah.

The car overheated in the mountains between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef, so we took a hike in the fresh snow and the white-barked populus tremuloides, otherwise known as quaking aspen, or just aspens.

A scenic pullout on Hwy. 24 reveals an astounding view of the Henry Mountains. A plaque at the viewpoint reads:

Before you lies Tantalus Flats. Encompassing Lower Browns Reservoir, the Flatts disappear into the deep, crimson depths of Oak Creek Canyon. To the South stand the Circle Cliffs.

Between Tantalus Flats and the dark, dominating horizon of the Henry Mountains, the eroded, colorful cliff line on Capitol Reef National Park’s Waterpocket Fold stretches southeast to Lake Powell.

The peaks of the Henrys are basalt, cooled and hardened magma from the inner earth that once pushed upward into sedimentary rock layers, which have long since eroded away.
