An Overnight Paddle on the Black Creek – Brooklyn, Mississippi

In May of 2017, I took my then five -year-old son on an overnight paddle trip down the Black Creek in Brooklyn, Mississippi. The trip was magical, and we both still talk about it to this day. Some of the highlights include: stopping on every sandy bank for a snack, finding a translucent greenish spider, sifting through creek rocks, stopping at every sandy bank for a swim, shooting water guns at imaginary enemies, camping on a raised sandbar, cooking to the sound of a burbling creek, sleeping to the sound of gurgling creek, and waking up to the sound of beaver slapping their tails on the water.

Here’s what I wrote on my facebook album after the trip, “Another FANTASTIC overnight paddle trip on the Black Creek in Mississippi. Brandon and company over at Black Creek Canoe Rental are professional, friendly, and downright awesome. 40 years in business this year! Highly recommended.” So that means that in 2027, we’ll have to come back to celebrate 50 years with this wonderful Mississippi outfitter.
